I think that's what I'm looking for now. I've not had much over break, though I have practiced... it's just felt forced. Everyone goes through these phases, I know, so I'm hoping it passes soon. With the next few days being the last "empty" days I'll have until school starts.
Actually, I did get some inspiration recently. My flatmate, has been working at the international center on campus since September. A few days ago, she came home with a flyer about a summer program for the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria! It’s a little expensive, and it may conflict with the Ireland trip, but it was definitely something that sparked my interest right back up in performing music. She told me about her brother who lives in Berlin with his wife. He’s a flutist and has been working as an ESL teacher and as a flute teacher. He seems to be doing well, and that gives me a little inspiration (there’s that word again) that if I spend a semester or more over there I might be able to make a living for a little while. Of course the hope is that I’d get some kind of scholarship.
No matter what happens, I do know that my goal is to find more performance opportunities. Anything that helps me get more experience, I’m all for it. My flatmate’s brother has said on numerous occasions that he’s learned more in Berlin than he ever did in any American university. That in and of itself makes me want to visit Europe. Never mind the fact that I’ve never been, that I know a few friends who will be over there and ARE over there now… if I can get a better education, that’s an even greater reason to go. At least, I think it is.
